The main technological objective of the GreenRoSE project is to provide European SMEs (Small and medium sized enterprises) of the electronics sector with the knowledge & tools to produce electronic equipment free of hazardous substances (in particular lead-free soldered and halogen free) with guaranteed quality and reliability. This environmentally sound electronic production is the new environmental and business challenge as reflected in European legislation - RoHS (Directive on the Restriction of Certain Hazardous Substances), WEEE (Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment), EuP (Directive on establishing a framework for Eco-design of Energy Using Products) - and in a worldwide trend towards "Green Electronics".

Specifically the project aims to:
- Maximise awareness of European electronics SMEs about removal of hazardous substances from electronics via each consortium IAG, through regional workshops, press articles and a set of training materials in regional languages.
- Research and advance the available knowledge base on environmental, technical and business issues associated with removal of hazardous substances from electronics, producing and distributing reports, papers and presentations.
- Develop real-world customised solutions for SMEs based on case studies carried out at all Core Group SMEs, ensuring that all will comply with RoHS Directive.
- Engage the SME community directly by creating a set of training materials for SMEs in regional languages, holding on-site training courses at Core Group SMEs and off-site training courses in each region represented in the consortium.
